Wedgewood Quarterly
Quarterly newsletter: News, Events, Websites, QR Codes??

Hello Wedgewood residents,
This is Doug from 4402 Clearwater DR. I am a trustee for the HOA. You may have seen the QR codes on the sandwich boards – that was me. I made a website that creates emails like this and publishes them out to the residents on behalf of the community. I'm the administrator of these sites and any email from admin@wedgewoodmanor.org is from me.
This is a digital copy of what was mailed out to our homes but with additional content. I fetched everyone's email from prior emails. Feel free to unsubscribe, my feelings aren't hurt, you can always visit the website to get the information. I want to serve the community, not spam you guys.
Thank you for your time and attention.
Doug

Open positions at the HOA Board
Two positions are open on Wedgewood Manor HOA Board of Trustees: Vice President and a Trustee.
I put the bi-laws and covenants into chatgpt and asked it questions about those roles
What is the job of the Vice President?
The vice president of the Wedgewood Manor Homeowners Association has several responsibilities as outlined in the Bylaws. The vice president serves as a backup to the president and has the power to perform all the duties of the president in case of the president's absence or disability. In addition to this, the vice president may have other specific powers and duties assigned to them by the Board of Trustees.
What is a Trustee?
In the context of the Wedgewood Manor Homeowners Association, a trustee refers to an individual who is elected to serve on the Board of Trustees of the Association. Trustees are responsible for managing the business and property of the corporation, making decisions regarding the association's operations, and ensuring that the covenants and bylaws of the association are upheld. They have specific duties and responsibilities outlined in the Bylaws of the Homeowners Association.
What are a trustee's term limits?
According to the Bylaws of the Wedgewood Manor Homeowners Association, each trustee is elected for a three-year term. These terms are staggered so that three trustees are elected each year at the annual meeting of the membership. The term of each trustee ends at the third annual meeting following their election.
Please consider being part of the HOA.

Logo Idea
While looking for graphics for the website, I found that the only option was to use the signs at the ends of the neighborhood. It was limited so I asked AI to make me a new one and I kind of like it. Personally, I'd like to see "established 1964" or whenever the year was. Let me know your thoughts.

QR Codes on the sandwich boards??

The sandwich boards are stashed in my garage. As chair of the advertising committee, I was looking for a way to publish events so that we weren't just making new posters every time. With the new website, I could laminate the link in order to inform people without making new work for myself.
I'm sure many people were confused by the qr codes; that was intentional to pique interest. Despite it being strange, I was able to prove that people were engaging with the website that the qr code links to.

It's missing March 1st data – the first day they were out there – but I was watching the numbers come in. There were 25 pages views from that day, 14 by way of using the qr code. You can view the details at the analytics website.
QR codes without any supporting content seems quite tacky.
I agree. Like, why can't it just see the information without the use of the phone?
Using the boards in a traditional way does work. If the font is big enough, people can see the information at a glance. It's very good at what it does. What it can't do well is collaboration.
Take the work party for example. There is an ongoing conversation happening that can't happen on the sandwich boards. Not unless the sandwich board takes you to a place where people are organizing. That's what the qr codes can accomplish over traditional messaging.
Going forward, I want the boards to display both traditional and qr codes at the same time. The sandwich boards are 2ft wide and 3ft tall. The qr codes are 2x2. The next time sandwich boards go out, the top third could have plain text and the bottom two-thirds can be qr code. This assures you can get the information you need at a glance and can scan a qr code from your car.
With the website and a regular newsletter, do we even need sandwich boards?
Probably. People don't like change. I know, I've republished the webpage at least 2 times trying to adapt to the feedback I got from residents. I'm here to listen to you and make something that people want to use.
With the collected data supporting the idea that members are getting news, the qr codes will stay for now. If they turn out to be too cringe, I'll scrap them.
That's the first issue. If you are a resident and want to publish your own newsletter using this platform, come talk to me. I welcome participation and the other residents have the power to unsubscribe if they don't want to tune in.
Thank you for reading, I look forward to seeing everyone at the annual meeting and around the neighborhood.
